Bookish pleasures, good news round-up

6 Nov 2018

|Bluestocking Books UK,

The Simple Things magazine in November features bookish pleasures: Frances Ambler notes that browsing in a bookstore is enjoyable in itself and carries the promise of pleasurable hours to come.  Highlighting wonderful bookshops around the country, we were proud to find that the article recommends Bluestocking Bookshop tours.

In more good news, The Bookseller reports that books sales are predicted to "outperform retail market this Christmas." I'm looking forward to the reissue of Nell Dunn's Talking to Women, the new Ben Aaronovitch and the audiobook of Michelle Obama's Becoming.

On which - there will be a Penguin/Waterstones/gal-dem magazine pop-up bookshop open for one week from 23 November at 2 Bury Place in Bloomsbury, London. The shop will feature books by women and non-binary people of colour. This will be just prior to Penguin Random House UK's Southbank event with  US First Lady Michelle Obama and novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Purple Hibiscus etc.) Tickets just going on sale now...

Finally, bookshop Bryars & Bryars reminds us all to keep things cozy when we come into our beloved indie bookshops! Yup, close the door behind you - books are not as insulating as you might think :-)

Happy days and make the most of the autumn. If you're planning ahead, tour gift vouchers are available for friends and family, just email for details. Every gift voucher bought in 2017 was redeemed in 2018, so this is not a gift that will go to waste.

Hope to see you soon, please share this newsletter with bookish friends.
